Fifth Birthday Fun

I always try to ask the kids what kind of birthday party they want and then plan a theme from their requests and ideas. (FYI- we are having non-stop requests for a December princess party).  When I asked Issac what kind of party he wanted this year he said that he wanted hot dogs, games and candy with his family AND preschool friends.  He also asked for a silly clown to tell jokes and do tricks. That is a ton of people was my first thought & then I went to Pinterest and started to look at Carnival themed parties.  I was a little sad that the breeze prevented the cotton candy machine from fully working but between the lollipop trees & the salt water taffy the kids had enough sugar!  We also had bins of peanuts, popcorn and pretzels and boxes of cracker jacks.  I will honest and tell you that the "clown bar" that consisted of clown roses, blowouts and silly glasses was my favorite.

We held the party at Van Doren’s Landing Park along the Green River. The weather was perfect and the amount of guests we had was an overwhelming reminder of how great of a boy Issac is and how blessed our family is to be surrounded by amazing people.   We served Hot dogs & chips and of course circus themed cupcakes.

Although we never got around to the organized party games I had planned it was a perfect party.  The highlight of the party was defiantly Charles the Clown.  He captivated the children and adults alike as he invited everyone to gather around and watch as he applied his clown make-up and entertained with balloon animals and his best buddy; a stuffed dog.

After an hour with Charles the Clown we served cupcakes & sang Happy Birthday before the kids ran off to enjoy the playground.

Thank you to everyone who spent their Saturday afternoon with us celebrating Issac’s birthday.

For Issac's actual birthday, May 23rd; we took the kids to Bounce it up where we bounced around and played Airhockey.  Then enjoyed dinner, cupcakes and presents at home.

It is August and yet I still can’t believe that Issac is five.  I swear I was planning a Mickey Mouse first birthday & announcing our second pregnancy just last month.  But here we are the parents of a five year old gearing up to release him to Kindergarten.  It is an amazing age.  Issac is so interested in everything; he is helpful, independent, thoughtful and creative.  He wakes up, puts on his blue Mariners baseball hat & slides his ninja turtle sword down the back of his undershirt; before he even opens his bedroom door!  Then he comes out and in an instant I can read his mood.  If he is in a good mood he wants cuddles and tells me about his “sleep story” aka dreams; if he is a bad mood he lays away from me and adjusts himself in silence.

Issac enjoys being read to and playing games such as Candyland, Ants in the Pants and Spot it.  When playing in his room he mostly plays with his cars or ninja turtles.  Outside he enjoys riding his bike and scooter, kicking around the soccer ball, as well as doing the monkey bars and playing Ninja Turtles imaginatively using sticks with his friends Brashul & Alexis.  It is the summer time so we have been on the go.  Issac enjoys the splash parks but now requests going swimming at the lake where he practices his swimming skills and diving to the bottom of the lake with his goggles on to look at rocks.

As we enter the next chapter of life, his elementary years, Issac looks forward to making new friends and learning how to use the classroom computer. He enjoyed his three days at Kindergarten camp and looks forward to starting school on September 8th.
